What if I just Make it Happen in my Own Terms?
What if I just make it happen in my own terms? What if it is my cue to just make it happen without any permission from others?
This is something that I have been sitting in my thought: the fact that my former mentor would deliberately isolate me from the other students for reasons like "Your skill isn't there yet and since you are not attractive enough, and that's why I don't include you in our group". What if this is my cue to leave and make it happen in my own terms instead of finding what is wrong in myself and the former mentor I mentioned?
Back then I'd want to chase the approval of this person by giving my best, only to realize that the directions I have been wanting to go is not simply aligned with what the person is imagining me to be. Slowly but surely, I am paving my own path to my own creative journey.
So let's ask the question instead:
"Since I am no longer having to convince my former mentor about the direction of my art journey, What would I do if I know my art journey will go what I wanted?"
Of course, it will be not all smooth-sailing. I do believe that the joy and the struggles are still necessary in the art journey.
Here are my answers so far for the question prior:
- I will make my creative practices working like an ecosystem than just niching down to one kind
- I will be more gentle in my creative practice, based on supports and "I can do it again next time" than relying on guilt and shame to motivate myself
- I will create artwork/creative output that is aligned with what I wanted than just following 'what I should have been doing instead'. Not to be confused with feedback that is to improve what I have already done.
- I will have a more healthy lifestyle such as not sitting down for 8 hours straight, getting enough sleep, still exercising, not skipping meals.
- I will be kind to folks who need supports in terms of creative practice, instead of just networking with folks who are up in the industry. I wanna create a network of people who can create safely instead of based in scarcity
I think that's all for my short spontaneous blog post, I hope you enjoy this one and I'll see you on the next one!
