To Create Creative Work without the Rage Engagement Bait
The main point I realized when I started to share my work directly to the community (instead of on social platform that highly rewards engagement bait) is that I can really focus on the creative work than thinking that I create the social media stats that I wanted. This is the question I asked myself that helps me to carve the life I've always wanted to build and actually living in it:
If everything goes well, what would you do, in terms of making creative works?
For me, I'd not have to feel like I should be posting on social platform at all - and instead I'd be using the social platform to announce future conventions, new and upcoming newsletter topic, as well as new item drop on my ko-fi shop. The idea is that, I'd go to Instagram and post there if there is a CTA (Call to Action) on my new post. That's my boundary.
This is definitely to minimize any doomscrolling on the platform, and so far it has worked well although imperfect. Remember, I am also a human.
To post more of my hobby, including my music-making, knitting, writing, will go to this Bearblog instead of on social platform, and community on Discord. This way, I can focus on making more than worrying if I needed to hit certain social media stats.
It's been around 10 months since I decided to be more mindful when using social media platform, and I actually decided to have a more productive chat to close friends when it comes to certain issue than turning to some strangers on the Internet who really wanted to make a ruckus for the sake of the social platform attention.
To the point I feel like this, and said to myself:
Is this how it feels to actually have life outside social media?
Covid lockdown has warped my perception on this for years, and I am just glad to go back to the surface again and actually experience more life.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this more hodgepodge and spontaneous blog post, and I'll see you on the next one!
