SMD Soldering Practice Journey - Part 01

Once upon a time, I bought this lovely Tamagotchi iDL 15th anniversary, in Used condition on Buyee. I looked at it and it is in a great condition on the photo and the real one when it has arrived. The Import Customs are ridiculously high, but I thought hey it was worth it cause this is the Tamagotchi I wanted since I was 14 years old.

Looks lovely, right! Unless the screen feels like it's slowly fading out and in and upon further research it's most likely due to the very old capacitor. Ideally you would replace it if you know soldering.

So I thought hey, I have replaced my Tamagotchi Smart lithium ion battery by soldering iron, and it did turn on eventually. So it should be okay right?

This is how it looks when my Tamagotchi Smart did turn on:

Then this happened: I charred the PCB of Tamagotchi iDL 15th Anniversary

This actually happened because my solder tip was too hot and I did not know that solder tip made of copper get oxidized easily when the temperature was set to 300oC

My heart sank really deep into the Ocean Trench. Then I decided, this will be my mission to eventually fix the PCB of the Tamagotchi to be up and running again.

The Practice Plan - SMD Soldering Practice

I actually ended up buying a set of Hot Air Blower and Soldering Iron image_2026-01-31_191402175

As my friend suggested, I ended up buying the one in which I can change the nozzle of the Hot Air Blower.

And here is how my SMD Soldering Practice going!

Technically I just filled most of the first column but I'm getting a hang of it! image_2026-01-31_192041833

Thank you for reading this blog entry! I'm starting to make this into an accountability mini blog so I'm excited to get into document my project!
