How using Different Vocabulary and Words can Allow us to Engage in Media More Intentionally

Having a discussion with artist who engage in entertainment media like Games and Animations can be both interesting and varied.

There are artists who basically are very upfront on how Games and Animation should have looked like, in sometimes very controlling manner. I used to have this kind of thinking, and based on my observation, it does come from an environment that mimics corporate work system. But of course, in a company you're basically working for someone else's vision.

While it makes sense that the idea of how commercial Games and Animation being published and greenlit should look exactly what the audience wanted, it is a very abstract concept because Entertainment scene has been constantly changing. I think Artists who have been supervising or overseeing the whole art production can relate to this: We just don't know if this is what the intended audience want until it is truly finished and polished.

What has worked years ago in Entertainment, may not work in today's entertainment scene. There is no exact formula; There are just tools based on your past experience.

And if you ask directly the intended audience wanted, often times they are confused and the answers can be scattered. This is because, you cannot give much opinion on a blank piece of paper.

I did have an observation that in a specific location (certain country, area, etc), it's possible that the Seasons of Entertainment Media is being defined not just one big studio/big project, but the whole Entertainment scene of that area in a designated time.

You may probably feel it more when you are directly pitching your show, or if you are publishing a book. You may see similar ideas, but that's okay because the execution is different and therefore, different piece of media.

This is why, I do hold this principle of, to celebrate any form or any kind of human creation because in a way, it can open other perspective of how a creation can look like. I think artists tend to forget that, the art you like might not necessarily the direction you wanted to do personally. To me personally, when we just water-down any piece of media into just "I like this" or "I hate that" can often limit our way of thinking. Because human emotions and experience are just complex and I'm all for that.

One thing that helped me to train myself to engage more intentionally and deeply is to use different Vocabulary. Feel how much the "word" weighs, how much context and subtle feel when you change it with other synonyms.

This is more of a hodgepodge and more spontaneous blog post, and I hope you like it!
