How has my art practice changed? - A reflection

It's been a year since I really switch to another field for a job that is non-creative. More questions started to circling around me and my inner thought, understandably:

You sure you want to do this? You might not like your job and find less time drawing You might not want to go back to art industry after this, this is your only chance to stay in creative field

But to me, having the stress of not having a more stable stream of income is more overwhelming. I decided that I'll treat it just like another job, and I can always have a side art job but I can do it according to my own term.

It's been a year, and looking back? It's one of the best decision I've ever done at the current times. Industry and times are changing, game industry is not the same as 3 years ago. It was good while it lasted, but it feels like my train stop is already here and it's time for me to hop onto another one.

I think it's common misunderstanding that, if I am not in the art industry that means I'm giving up on art. I think we forget that working in an art studio means we are providing our skill to make other people's vision a reality. You are, providing a skill in return for a payment.

Even during the art studio times, I still had to make personal art because I cannot post any of my art for the studio due to NDA. Now, I can comfortably work on my personal artwork because I am no longer being burned out as much with art. In fact, my decision is fueling my passion for art even more. My current job provide the safety tool to create the art I wanted, and it is not less of an art if I make it as a hobby.

My personal art outside studio work, even counted as a "hobby". Hobby just simply means you are doing things on your spare time, but that is not a definition in which it means it's "less than" and "less serious".

Nowadays I create more art freely without any pressure. Nor that I would be scared if it didn't turn out the way I wanted. There is always a better chance of tomorrow. Art looking more sketchy? Well I like it and I'm doing it for myself! Why should I create art around the idea of someone else's should-haves when it is not alligned with mine?

Anyway this is more of an another spontaneous bearblog post, and I'll see you on the next one!
