Creature Design Workshop Challenge - February 2026 || WIP part 01
I decided to join the February challenge of the Creature Design Workshop! Here is the prompt challenge the discord server: Misunderstood Guardian!
Basically the idea is to make a scary creature but deep inside it is actually a gentle one. It needs to have both the scary look from the outside and the gentle personality from its behaviour.
It reminds me of this YouTube Video I recently watched from Visign Studio that I find really helpful and relate to the current art challenge.
It talks about how subversion is a storytelling tool rather than design tool. It should create an additional info than just treating it just a foundation. It's a really good video and I'd really recommend it.
And here is my work-in-progress for the submission!
This is the early exploration of an idea of an unknown alien becoming the nurse of the health facility. It does not know how to talk in human language yet it tried its best to understand human child. The scary factor for this creature is the "unknown" idea/unfamilar creature of it that we, humans do tend to assume the worse when it comes to alien creatures.

This is the more refined sketch I did! This week I was stuck in 2-3 hours traffic but I ended up watching John Park's tutorial while on my commute back home. I think I love how the keyframe image on the left side of the drawing established the overall introduction of the mood I wanted for the creature.

Hope you enjoy more of this accountability blog post! I'll keep you updated on the progress on the art challenge!
