A Reminder - Making Art takes Time too
This is more of a conversation with myself how I would feel guilty for not finishing an illustration for more than few days/few weeks.
Honestly, I'd feel guilty even if I have to take multiple weeks to finish an illustration, even the stylized approach, I wonder where this guilt came from honestly. Possibly from the pressure of my previous studio that finishing an illustration for more a day counts as 'taking too long'. Or even from the belief from certain professional who paved the belief that one illustration that takes more than few months to a year counted as too long. Real humans do have their own life too!
Sometimes it does feel like making art as a hobby because it brings me joy the most, is seen as if I am surrendering my so-called 'dream job'. If the art industry is similar to the ones in the 2018-2020, then I'd be glad to go back. But the reality is, it's changing rapidly as time goes on so I don't even want to go back to the entertainment art job anymore. After all, a job is a job. A responsibility to put food onto the table.
I am still unlearning the habit of 'making art for living 100% from your art income' is something to be put on a pedestal when it is a job. It's true that you need certain skill to fulfill a client's demand but that's a job too. In any job, you are required to fulfill your boss' demands.
I am writing this as I am very worried if I am taking way too long for my collage mix-media illustration and my Boxing Bear card illustration.
Honestly, does it matter if I just take another few months working on it? I am personally enjoying every moment of making it and people resonated with it so much too. If I am having so much fun doing it, then it is what matters the most!
Anyway hope you enjoy this more spontaneous bearblog entry, and I'll see you on the next one!
